Does anyone have any comments - pro or con - on the Sony DSC-F828 8 Megapixel camera? With a Zeiss lens, 8 megapixels, and priced at $1,000 - appears to be a nice camera. Again - anyone have any knowledge about this camera?
Best wishes,
Gus

I started with the F707 way back when, and I loved it then. In fact I still carry it on outings and vacations so I can leave my Canon 1D Mark II home. I assume the Sony is only better now. Mine was 5mp, so 8mp should be nice! The only complaint I had was the delay in the shutter. I hope they fixed that! Good luck.

I've heard it's performance is disappointing compared to the F-717, which was very highly thought of for a P&S. Apparently the pics are a little noisy and the colors aren't great. There are numerous sites on the internet that have detailed reviews, like Steve's digicams, Imaging resource, and dpreview. Those places should be able to give you a lot more information than what you can get here.

The other comment I would make is that because it uses such a small sensor, you won't get as narrow of a depth of field as you'd get with any DSLR. This makes the camera not exactly ideal for glamour shooting, as it will be tough to isolate your subject from the background.

This all depends on what you want to shoot. Personally, for $1,000 I'd take a look at a Digital Rebel or maybe a Nikon D70. A used 10D in good shape might be in that range also, not sure.

Just my thoughts. I don't claim to be an expert though.

The only real way to give you a decent answer is to know, from you, what you will be doing with it.

I've shot with one, it's an OK digicam, but the Canon Pro 1 is a better all-in-one. But at that same price point, you might take a look at the new Olympus 4/3 format DSLR, the evolt e-300, kit lens included. I just bought one Mon., and it's images are VERY impressive straight from the cam. You've still got 8mp, but on a sensor FAR larger in size. Interchangeable lenses. SLR viewing. Outdoor flash sync @ 1/250, indoors @ 1/200th. Feels like a quality unit.

Just a suggestion...

my photo interests are general photography and some glamour. From my research and the comments here, sensor size seems to be an issue with this camera.
