John Paul,
There are three separate sharpening "stages". An initial "Capture" sharpening which gives you a light overall sharpening to counter the anti-alias filter, etc, from the digital capture. It is set according to the camera's resolution and level of detail in the picture. Easier than it sounds and very well explained in the manual. The second stage is the "Creative" sharpening. You can do an overall sharpening of the picture, or use different types of sharpening (high-pass, edge, luminance, etc) that can be applied by brush selectively to various areas of the image. There is also a set of brushes that can be used to "unsharpen" the picture, such as diffusion and fog brushes. The third stage is "Output" sharpening which is set according to the output device (inkjet, web) and the finished size of the image. It sounds like lots of work, but really isn't. It is all automated once you decide on which specifics you want, and done on layers which can be individually adjusted, if desired. Works great! Good luck.
