I'e been shooting with this particular flash card for about a year or more. never a problem. all of a sudden, about a week ago, i get this ERROR 02 on my 10D. I look it up and it says there's a problem with the flash card and that i should use another or reformat this one. i did both, but when i again used this card, it got about half-filled and i got the ERROR 02 again. So again I reformatted and again I got the ERROR 02 when the card is about half-filled. When I DL the card to my HD, the last few images before the dreaded ERROR 02 are corrupt.

Is this card toast? Is it now simply a 256MB card? Can I fix it with Norton or something like that? Anyone? Anyone?

Hey Jimmy.. I am no expert but I wouldnt trust that card at all now. Cards are pretty cheap now so I would scrap it and get a new one.

You might try calling Sandisk. I had what I thought was a problem with one of my sandisk cards and they were helpful, and only a little surly. The card may be under warranty, but if you're like me you have no idea where the receipt is.

Worst they can do is tell you you're screwed, right?

Greetings. I'm an IT manager by trade but unfortunately have little experience with flash chips.

I can say that any time I've discovered bad sectors or started throwing errors on a storage device it was just the beginning of the end. When it happens now, I do a full scandisk, fix the errors, then get EVERYTHING I need off the drive.

It's death is most likely inevitable.

The card has a bad "sector." (Flash cards don't have sectors the way hard drives do but the analogy is reasonable.) When you hit it, the controller ROM goes bananas and stops talking to the camera.

It's possible that a disk and/or flash utility might be able to "fix" the problem but as you have already been advised, it *will* return. Trash the card. I've been seeing a lot of ads for 1GB cards at $50 after rebate - Tiger Electronics had a high-speed (40x) 1GB Lexar card at that price last month, you might check there. I just bought a 1GB SanDisk for $45 after rebate from Fry's Electronics (it was for my boss to give to his wife, I'm good for CF at the moment.)

I suspected the card was toast... or at least in the toaster. I shall smear marmalade upon it and retire it from service... Maybe pen an alternative children's book: "The Little CF Card Who Couldn't"

Bad! BTW, have a look Here for a review of Rescue Pro if you want to salvage any of the images. It might be able to pull the images you've already re-formatted!
