I use a 2 megapixel camera (don't women say it's quality not quantity). And someday I would like to upgrade to a 6. My question is what size of hard drive do you use or would like to use? My pictures now are anywhere from 700k to 1.5mg. I have a 40G hard drive broken down to 10G sections. Do you depend on keeping your pics on a hard drive, or do you just store them on CD's?

I have the 20D (8mp camera) and have a 250 gig hard drive. I also backup everything with DVD's. If I were you I'd get atleast a 200 gig hard drive.

sounds to me like you have it under control. I have cheap pull out so I am only limited to how many drives I am willing to purchase. I am presently building a terabyte, Computers are another of my toys.
I 'm using Sony DSC-F707 5 megapixel.

I have twin 80G drives. Not nearly enough!

Oh, I shoot a D60 and generally shoot in RAW mode if I'm taking photos of anything worth keeping.

However, like all other things electronic, hard drive prices fall steadily. When I fill these up I'll be able to upgrade without worry. :-)

Boot drive is 160, two internal slave drives are 160 and 250. That machine runs a 4x250 RAID as well. As soon as a set or project is finished, it goes on two cds (or two sets of cds, as applicable), one stays here and one goes off site. I'm planning on a DVD burner shortly.

Cheers!

My two computers each have the following;
Main hard drive is a 120 gig SATA, and two 80 gig IDE backup drives. I copy each file I want to keep from the C drive to each of the backp drives. So I have 3 workable copies of each file. If two of my hard drives go poof, I still got the 3rd.( so total I have 2- 120 drives and 4-80 gig drives)

160GB and two 40GBs, DVD-RW/CD-RW drive, two external ZIP 250 drives (don't laugh, they were free...lol) and I'm looking into another couple of 160GB or larger drives as well. I might stripe the drives just for the redundancy but haven't made up my mind on that one yet.

Good day!

Mike

I have about a terabyte of data. Being a programmer and a photographer means I need LOTS of disk space.
