Do any of you have any photos with and without the use of grids?

Fair question..

A grid is a modifier used on studio strobes to limit the spread of the light from the strobe.

I use the Alien Bees studio lights. My grid fits right into the reflector shell.

There is a chart on this page that shows the effects of different grids - how the beam is narrowed by each one.

Greetings! LightTools has a graphical illustration of the light spread and fall-off based on the different angles of diffusion. They also have a download for calculating the light falloff.

I'll bite... this image was shot using a 40 deg. grid on the main with a bastard amber gel. I used a softbox to provide a little bit of fill.

Thanks everyone. I was actuallty wondering if anyone had an image using a grid and one without a grid; same model, pose, background, etc. In any event, I can see the effects of using a grid. Thanks once again.
