I have to face reality, I just dropped $1250 on a D70 & SB600 and no matter how much I want to, I can't afford another $650 for Photoshop.

I need help picking out another software package that runs in the range of $100-150 that might work (I know nothing is as good) almost as well.

Can anyone make any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Jean-Maurice

Elements 3.0 just came out. You get 80% of PS at 10% of the price.

I'll vote for Elements 3.0 also. I think it is better than Paint Shop Pro 9, whcih is very good. I just think that if you "want" PS, and think you will eventually get it, then Elements is definetly the way to go.

Save the money, the same way you did to get the camera. So it'll take a
couple more months. It'll be worth it. Don't scrimp. You will regret it later.

Thank you for the suggestions.

I agree that I will still want CS, but it will most likely take more than a couple of months to save the money. I just found out my job is being outsourced in 3-6 months. I'm not bitter... yet. Ask me again when the severance runs out.

Thank you everyone for your help.

Here's a legal way to get a copy of CS cheaper then paying full retail. Go on Ebay and find someone who is selling an old copy and pick it up for $50 - $100 or find someone who is selling an original older version. Then purchase the upgrade which you can get as low as $131 on Amazon with some discount they are running.

A couple of caveats.

1. Check the Adobe site to see what version you have to have in order to upgrade to CS. Adobe will no longer upgrade some of older versions so check before buying.

When I did this I purchased Version 4.0 for $100 and then purchased the 7.0 upgrade. Then a year or so later purchased the CS upgrade.

2. This one may or may not be important to you. If the person you purchased it from registered it you can get them to sign a registratin transfer so you will become the registered owner. Adobe has these forms on their web site.

Another option is find a friend who has access to an educational discount from a university, etc. I don't know what the discount price is but I've heard it is significantlly less.

Next best thing is Adobe Elements 3.0. As was stated it contains most of the functions you will need to work on digital photographs and you'll also be gaining knowledge and experience that can be applied to Photoshop when you can upgrade.

Hope this helps,

Luis

sorry to be horses ass, but shouldn't you have thought of that before dropping the $1250?

PS Elements would be the closest second best i think

But paint shop pro aint bad ( we use it for some video applications at work), but I am not sure if it supports color managment, which is very important for print work.
