Hi Folks,

anyone have a suggestion for a good photo album generator for html? I've tried Photoshop, ACDsee and Dreamweaver. The dreamweaver one is very simple, but it does not shrink the file to a small enough size (starting image size is about 2 meg). Photo shop and acdsee work, but I can't figure out how to edit the look of the album. Seems like their written in a different language (java?). Anyway, my goal is to create a nice looking album through a program that will automatically resize the images, then be able to edit the look of the album through dreamweaver (or photoshop). Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Chris

I use Breezebrowser and it works like a charm. It comes with dozens of templates and the templates are in HTML, so you can edit them for whatever custom look you want. Jalbum is also nice and easy to edit the templates.
Cheers,

I use Express Thumbnail Creator It is really easy to use and can be customized to suit just about any need. It will creat all the html pages and put them along with th images in a directory ready for uploading.

In the current American Photo there is an article that tells how to do this with Photoshop.

File->Automate->Web Photo Gallery

I have not used it but if you already have photoshop it's worth a shot.

What Jim Said.

I use Photoshop's Web Photo Gallery automation feature - CS has eleven gallery styles build into it, and you can customize the pages to your liking, as with any other html page, in Dreamweaver or any other text or WYSIWYG html editor.

I happen to already have a few javascript-loaded page templates that I like to use, so when I have to "hard-code" a gallery I pretty much only use the WPA batch to resize the images (customizable) and build the thumbnails (also customizable). Then I Find and Replace in Dreamweaver to reset the calls, using the basic html rules. Otherwise, I use a PHP gallery that I wrote that uses the GD_Lib to generate thumbs on the fly (GD_Lib is an Apache module, some servers have ImageMagick installed, it's a little faster).

If you don't like that, www.versiontracker.com is an excellent resource for low- or no-cost bits of software.

Cheers!

If you're on a Mac, iPhoto does a good job of creating a photo album. You can set many parameters, such as thumbnail size, large photo size, number of columns & rows of thumbs per page, background color, page title, and much more. It automatically creates the thumb page(s) and links each thumb to its large photo, creates a separate page for each large photo, resizes the thumbs and large photos from the original files, and includes or excludes the photo's title and file name under each photo. It creates standard HTML that can be edited in Dreamweaver or other HTML editor. For example, you add text or graphics to the created page or change the table parameter from border="0" to border="1" to see the thumbnail layout cells (an effect that I prefer). --Randy

Can anyone point me to a software that takes a large batch of photo files and converts size to a customized value, and also adds a watermark? A friend told me about it once, but I forgot the name.

Photoshop can do this, see mine and Jim's posts above.

To add the watermark, you'll first have to create it, save it with a transparent background, and then write a 'paste layer, flatten and save" action in Photoshop. It's as easy as pushing a record button, doing it, and clicking a stop button. Come to think of it, that's exactly what you do...Jsut be sure to work on a copy or two when you experiment to make sure that you've got it doing what you want.

Feel free to post up if you need more details...There are lots of people here that are more than willing to help, and as has been said before, there's more than one way to do it...

Cheers!

The company that sells Breezebrowser has just introduced a supposed new version of Breezebrowser which they call Breezebrowser Pro. It only has one fairly minor change from the latest version of Breezebrowser. But by introducing this name change, the company owner is now no longer honoring the lifetime free upgrades to the original product as was promised to all the people who bought the product when it first came out. I can no longer recommend this product because of this type of dishonest activity. This is unforunate because it is/was a good product. But I believe when a business owner makes a commitment to his customers he is obligated to keep that commitment.
I am now using Jalbum for generating HTML galleries and it works very well and is more customizable that BB.
Cheers,
rfs
