hi folks,
i don't shoot glamour, however i do hang around these parts on occasion. i think some of you guys (and gals) to great work, and it's always a pleasure to peruse people's portfolios.

i've shot film for as long as i've been doing photography, and i am taking a trip to rome in january, and then another one in may. i'd really like to go digital, however i'm in college and that means that i'm broke.

with the 20D coming out, i figured that there might be some 10D, D60, or D30 users out there that were getting rid of their old rig. would anyone be willing to sell one to me?

also, are the D60 and D30 at all comprable to the 10D and the 20D?

any advice you guys could throw me would be great.

you can check out my work at www.flickr.com/photos/notinponce

thanks,
-ray

if I was gonna get a used body it would be a 10D mainly because of the magnesium alloy body, but the 20D is much more camera for 500 more.

I would skip the d60 and d30.

i've heard that the digital rebel had major color issues. i'm rough on gear too, so i think the plastic body of the rebel might suffer...

I know that the Canon 10D and the digital Rebel(300D), use the same processor for the colors. If you are in doubt about the colors on skin tones, see Allen Prathers work on GG. He and I both shoot with the Canon Rebel(300D).

Hello Ray,

I feel your pain, still trying to buy a lighting kit after all of these years. Word of the wise, when your mother calls you out of the blue to go in with her and your brother and her boyfriend on a house, don't do it. Sure its cheaper then your monthly rent, but eventually it sucks you dry and you can never escape!

Now that i have spoken the financial photographic accessory woes, allow me to aid you in your quest to go digital.

You should be looking at the following cameras,

Nikon D70

Canon Digital Rebel

Canon 20D (for what you would be getting a 10d for short of used, might as well save pennies (almost literally) for another month or so and up to the
20d, a superior camera by far to the 10d)

Olympus E-1 system (if you don't mind going olympus glass)

and the latest entry Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D with Anti Shake built in (essentially VR but in the camera body)

All of these bodies will provide solid work on many levels of shooting and woln't destory the wallet.

Any questions about any of them feel free to inquire
.... or , anyone with any questions, you may ALSO feel free to inquire

I'm shooting with a Canon d60 rigt now and am about ready to upgrade to the 20D. I'm keeping my d60 for backup, but I've been following prices and this is what I've seen. D30 is going used for anywhere from $400 to $600. If you can get a nice one for under $400 it may not be a bad deal. D60s are still going way too high $500 to $900, you may as well buy a used 10D for around $1000. Digital rebels are way to high, around $1000, you would be better off picking up a 10D. The preceeding is just my observations and oppinions. I'm sure others will differ.

Take a look at the Olympus E-300. It's suppose to be coming out first part of Dec.

8 MP and should be selling for less than a grand.
