At Philly one and two, I observed everyone with their new Nikon digitals inputing their files directly to Photoshop on their laptops. How can I access Photoshop from my D70 without running through Nikon Picture Project?
Thanks........

I am a Canon shooter... and not at the workshop...

But, once you plug you camera into your laptop via the USB cable...

The computer (xp and 2000) will see the camera as a removable storage or drive.

Open Photoshop CS and Open the File Browser and navigate to the Drive letter your computer has labeled you camera... might even show up as Nikon Camera.

And Open away from there.

BUT,

I really would not do this on a regular basis... The Compact Flash cards are formatted in Fat32 and the File Allocation Table is very fragile. To change anything might corrupt the data. Just download the images and work off the laptop; it will be faster anyway...

Bob, I'm not really familiar with Picture Project. I'm assuming that it's a new version of Nikon View, it so then you can go to the preferences (under edit on a PC and Picture Project on a Mac) and it will probably be called something like autolaunch, disable it. That will keep it from starting itself when you plug in a card or camera.

If you mean how do you get the photos to open directly to photoshop by double clicking on them there are 2 ways to do this. One way is to re-install photoshop and when it asks about what file formats to associate with photoshop then select all the types that you want associated. Like jpeg, tiff, bmp whatever.

Second way only work on a PC. Open a folder, go to the tools pull down menu, then select the folder options. Then select the "file types" tab, then scroll down the extensions to the ones you want to change, select it and then click on the change button below that window and then navigate to the folder that holds you photoshop program. Hit OK and that's it.
