anyone use AC Slaves like the ones Britek makes? They're cheap, tho not powerful, but i'm thinking they'd work great to 'pepper' some light here and there.

at 25 w/s they are about as powerful as a cheap ($17) vivitar hot shoe flash. You can't set the power, each blast is full power. That said they are useful for accent lights.

They'll work for small accent lights. I also might look into attaching an optical slave (about $15 bucks) to any on-camera flash units you might have laying around (or can pick up from garage sales). They also would work the same way, but you might have some control over output power. I frequently use my old on-camera flash units with my big studio lights when I need a litle hair light or to fill in a small area. Only drawback might be a slower recycle time than professional strobes -- but that's a small sacrifice and not really a problem if you don't shot fast.

Yep, they're ok for accent lighting, but the one time that I used them (after being spoiled by my Bees) I found it frustrating to wait for them when the Bees kept up with the model. I have many shots from this set that only have one accent color, which is ok for some of them, as I found that I could manipulate the timing and get a green light only if I wished.

Green and red in the image are from the AC slaves.
