I was just thinking... just over 4 years to the date, I saw my first D30 camera body being used by a Racine photographer who was standing beside me on the media platform when we were covering Al Gore's visit to Waukesha WI.
Fast forward 4 years and today, I have a 20D... Everything about it is so much better..here's a partial list:
$1,500.00 price tag vs $3,000.00 price tag.
8.2MP vs 3MP
5fps vs 3fps
Metal outer body parts vs plastic outer body parts.
9 tiny AF points in a football like shape vs 3 large blocks in a row
AF speed quicker than the 1D vs AF speed slower than my 1987 made EOS 620 body!
Shutter lag that is nearly as quick as my 1n film bodies vs a shutter lag that was nearly a 2/3 a second long..
Scrolling 10x zoom LCD vs a 9 segment view.
1/250th top sync vs 200th
1/8000 top shutter speed vs 1/4000th
BW preview with filter effects...which the D30 never had.
Parameters adjustable in camera...not via computer only.
Cleaner AF screen vs a fuzzy focus screen.
very low noise compared to the D30 which looked like trash after 400iso.
ETTL 2 vs ETTL
thumbwheel selectable AF points (special CF) vs a two step opperation to select AF points.
EF-S mount for adding a 10-22mm lens to the line-up to provide more coverage for us who lost a lot with the 1.6 FOV factor..
The only thing that remains the same is the 1.6 FOV...and the ease of use..
If I was to say that in four years from now...(back in 2000)...that I'd be shooting with something like I listed above...that would cost only half as much as the D30, they's have me locked up in the funny farm!
What do you suppose will be the "Elan" class digital camera in the year 2008?
