Has anybody used the Sunpak 120J.

I am a amateur photographer. I shoot alot of pictures of the wife and she loves to be photographed.

I am thinking about getting the Sunpak 120j flash to use with my Minolta A1.

I would like to buy a Quantum but it is out of my price range. So does anybody have any experience with it and some sample pics I could look at.

Some of my pictures of my wife: http://public.fotki.com/RallyeX/wife

Thanks

Its a great flash...but its best on flash bracket or light stand...not the best when mounted to the hotshoe....

I have a 120J and it is a nice flash. The fact that you can make it barebuld and the reflector is compatible with ones for Norman and Lumedyne flash units makes it fairly versatile.

Jayson was right. You will want to either get a flash bracket or a portable lightstand to use it on, but then you really shouldn't be using a flash on the hotshoe mount anyway in my opinion except possibly for use as fill flash outside in the sun and even then I like to use an umbrella.

You can find these on e-bay from time to time. I think there are a couple up there now, but make sure you look at the price at somewhere like B&H so you don't end up paying an almost new price for something that is used and has no warranty.

You may also want to check out Norman 200B flashes that are on e-bay used pretty consistantly and go for $170-$200.

Thanks for responding.

So far I think that I am going to go with a 120J TTL. I should be getting sometime in the next couple of weeks. I will post some pictures once I get it.

Actualy my wife ordered the flash for me for an early Xmas present. She went ahead and told me so she could make sure she ordered the right thing.

So I should have some better pictures to share soon.

I got my 120J TTL flash today. So I should have pics to share real soon. So far from a few test shots it looks like its got plenty of power.

My wife found it on Ebay for $150 like new in box. It was an early Xmas present. Now I can't wait to get her to rip of her clothes and get in front of the camera!
