I'm carrying my 10D to Boston and I've never taken it on a plane before. Does anyone know anything about traveling with digital SLR's and airport X-rays? Are there any problems doing this?

just took my 10D out to vegas and had no problems with it. I don't recall hearing anything about that being harmful to the camera.

You should be fine. X-rays are potentially harmful to high ISO (800 and up) film, and that's with multiple passes. I hauled my 10D to Panama twice (two x-ray passes each way) this year and my 10D and a 20D with multiple CF cards to England just a couple weeks ago. No problems, other than the weight of the bag. Might need an x-ray of my back after carting that stuff around, but the gear's fine.

The walk-through and carry on scanners are nothing compared to the cargo and baggage scanners.

As a matter of course, I always remove my DEVICES from my photo pack: Laptop, camera body, light meter and external hard drives (I may be taking it a bit far, but I want the TSA goons to see what they're looking at before they nuke it) and put them in a tub.

I also insist upon the scanner operator waiting until I'm on the exiting side of the scanner before he/she runs it through. Since I usually fly red-eyes and am very early (meaning a short, if any line), it's never been a problem for them to do that.

Also, if you have a pack, you may need to open it anyway so that they can scan through the multiple levels "properly."

Cheers!
