Yeah they are quite unique alright, they advertised the Canon 580EX Speedlight for $379 (the same as a bunch of other Retailers) so I ordered one with Jayson here and I called yesterday to check status, only to find out they have CANCELLED ALL orders as they were selling them too cheap, never bothered to notify me!

Then they had charged my credit Card the day I ordered it and NEVER issued a refund, I had to call my credit card company to get my money back.

Jayson does seem like a nice guy though, I talked with him a bunch of times, but the have lost my business forever...

Don't hold Jason accountable for the lack of notification...I know he has had several family deaths and emergencies recently. I spoke with him twice yesterday and I know he had a sizable amount of emails and phone calls to make and or return. PLUS the fact that even as I spoke with him he received notification of another death in the family. He's got a lot on his plate right now and if there is a mistake he will be glad to help you any way he can.

Just looking out for the GPCB

I was not blaming Jayson for anything, as I said he is a nice and cool guy,

My problem is with his company and I will not order anything from them again.

sorry if you misunderstood and I am sorry anyone died...

As I understand it, the price increase was from the manufacturer (Canon) and not specifically from Unique.

Don't get me wrong, I understand your frustration and anger -- I'd be upset, too. But until Jason has an opportunity to address this himself (as noted, I believe one of the funerals is today so chances are he won't have a chance for another day or so), I'd suggest your calling Unique and speaking with someone to get the full story on why the price increase.

Just my take on things. I've dealt with Unique several times this past year and haven't been disappointed yet on price, service or delivery.

I don't like the situation much either. The manufacturer in question made an error with pricing, instead of admiting they did wrong they simply said gave Unique the option to sell at that price, HOWEVER, we would be paying the difference.

So figure, we would have went chapter 11 in covering our orders on the 580, cause they woln't offer the price protection for us on our orders for we had so many at the lower price.

As to why you were not notified in my absence the past week, well thats an internal problem here that just led me screaming at someone...possibly getting fired for it in reterospect.... SO, lets hope that doesn't happen... and that maybe one day we can do business again.

I don't blame you on this one, just Unique was put in the hard place cause of a larger company not attempting to fix its mistake.

You all will note some place are still honoring there prices, beware the grey market. No 580's have really shipped yet, and I would worry where the flash is coming from at that price if its "USA."

Hmmm... price increase from Canon eh?
'
I saw somewhere that the battery grip for the 20D is about 169.00...or was it 189.00...I forget... but then, I opened up a Calumet catalog, and they state a price for the battery grip for the 20D as $469.00!!

Misprint or price hike?

Zounds! I noticed a thread over on dpreview.com with much of the same info you mentioned here, only I believe it was B+H that had it at that high price. Anyway, I'm just glad I have mine in hand for the $174.50 I paid to Unique.
