I recently purchased a 20D have shot around 1500 images. A friend of mine put one of his CF cards from his 1Ds into the camera and it would not record images to the card even after formatting the card in the camera. We pulled the battery replaced my orignal card and restarted the camera. Images are being recorded to the card now but I have a 9 that is is viewable on the right side of the viewfinder.
Anyone know what this is?
Why it's there?
Do I have to send the camera in for repair?
We have since shot an additional 1500 images and the camera seams to be functioning correctly with the exception of the digit 9 being in the viewfinder.
Thanks to the group for any help.

the nine you are referring to indicates how many photos you can take in burst mode if it is the number in the viewfinder I am thinking of. It will count down as you shoot.

Thanks I will have to check on that on Monday. I don't have the camera in front of me. We were shooting stills and nothing that would utilize the brust feature. The digit 9 never changed from frame to frame while I was shooting. Also I thought the 20D had a burst of "5 fps performance for up to 23 consecutive frames" according to the specs. I will put the drive to high spead motor on Monday and see if the 9 changes or counts down.

Thanks for the response.

I want to thank Mr. Morgan for assisting me via e-mail and pointing out the answer to my question. That being that the 9 represents the starting point of a count down and will count down the last 9 frames of the burst rate of 23. Kind of like the Cannon 1V which counts down the last 10 film frames.

Thank again to Mr. Morgan for his assistance.
