i'm okay with the 10D, especially for glam and tease--and i'm already eyeing the 20D. i can't speak for other applications like sports. moving the AF off the shutter has helped.

Or is it? Please advise.

Specs:
Shot in RAW
28-105 Canon USM II lens at 28mm
f/8
1/60
ISO 200

Specs:
Shot in RAW
28-105 Canon USM II lens at 45mm
f/6.7
1/60
ISO 200

What did I do different? I narrowed the aperture and ensured that my focal length didn't go above my shutter speed. Hopefully, I think I found my problem. I'd hate to think that my main body was ****ty, especially when I'm ordering two more for backups.

pic #1: i dunno.... i wouldn't call it sharp sharp altho is quite nice, especially the perspective. pic #2: a nice shot as well and sharp on the groom's hair, if that's where your focus point is meant to be. do you have prime lenses? i get tack sharp from my canon 85mm 1.8 and i hear the 50mm is very sharp as well. plus, you have better control of DOF with the primes. my understanding is that zoom lens focus with both the front and rear elements while fixed lenses focus with the rear element only thus allowing for better control of DOF.

Mike
Please do several lenses tests on your 10d. I have a friend that had a short focusing problem on his 10d. He had big arguments with canon but they finally replaced it. Four month ordeal.
Also, don't let people scare you about going into business. My 2 cents, you are now in the marketing and sales business. Photography is just the paper you sell.
Good luck

Mike,

Looks to me that the glass could be the main difference. The Quantary 28-300 3.5-5.6 AF can't be the sharpest glass in your camera bag... even if it was Canon glass. I don't have confidence in the performance any of those extreme long wide to telephoto zooms. My personal opinion regarding those lenses is that they are made for beginner photographers that think that they can buy one lens for their camera outfit. If this were true, one of those wide to telephoto zoom point-n-shoots would be norm for pro-photographers instead of SLRs.

BTW - The focus and sharpness in the wedding shots look great at least at the posted resolution.

Good luck with the business,
Michael

From what I've read, this is a common problem with the 10d. Send it to Canon and they are supposed to be able to calibrate it.

God.... I just got one of them back from Canon to get a new shutter...and what ever else it needed....so they replaced tghe hot shoe....and added the newest firmware....charging me about 400 bucks...and after 4K shutter cycles with the brand new shutter, it FAILED today!!! FAILED!!!

[censored] Canon!! [censored] Canon!

Why is it that they have to build such a god damn [censored] piece of [censored]??

I officially HATE the 10D!!

never mind... I understand why they need to build crap...it's so we can keep on sending our equipment in for repairs....just like when they announded the firmware for the 20D that if you uploaded it to the camera via a Canon CF card, the camera would completely die......wouldn't even turn on... which means that you have to send the camera into them to repair it.....or the 10D focus calibration, ...how much does that cost you?? There is good money to be made off of repairs.. Just like Ford's 150 with the "check engin light" that is programed to come on after a certain number of miles.....which means that you have to go to an authorized Ford dealer...and pay them 300 + bucks to have them figure out through a series of tests that the truck was programed to do that!!

Ford = Found On Road Dead

What should I say for Canon??
