hi gang,

has anyone out there used any of the epson printers that print directly to dvd's and cd's.

i know generally it's better to get the special inject printable media instead fo the silver.

i know the ink will run if they get wet eventhough they are dry.

is there a difference in quality between the different epson models?

are there other sub $400 printers that print to optical media?

thanks for any input.

I've used the Epson 300 to print directly to printable cd's pretty successfully. Not really any issues at all. Actually, COSTCO has them for around $139 right now which is really cheap as I was at Calumet Photo on Sat and they wanted $189 for the same printer. They also include 2 or 3 printable cd's AND, if you are not happy for any reason, COSTCO will take the machime back, no questions asked...pretty kewl...

If you mean printing printing a lable directly onto a CD/DVD, yep. A couple of months ago I picked up an Epson Photo R200 exclusively for printing onto Cds. For about 95 bucks, it does a truely outstandind job. Yes, you have to use Cd/DVDs with printable label areas. The silver ones just don't work. Aside from the manufacturer's markings showing through, the ink is not absorbed and will never dry. It just sort of sits on the surface and comeoff on anything it touches. It also messes up the print heads, requiring several courses of self cleaning. With the printable CDs, it does an excellent job.

I use the Epson R300 and haven't had any issues.. We've printed a few thousand with an older model Epson printer and haven't heard any problems from those.

I upgraded from a C84 to the R300 and the CD print feature is great. The only problem I have had is the printer does not last very long. I replaced 2 under warranty as both said on screen " internal parts are wearing out...see owners manual". The last one had 10 days left on the warranty so they gave me a new R320 model, same but with more junk I will never use. I also suggest buying a 3 year warranty ( $29.00 from my seller) as the R320 is around $200.00. If I had to use my money I would go with the $100.00 R200 model....a great value.

COSTCO will also take it back up to about 6 months after you buy it. I have taken several firewire drives back due to failure...some were 6 months old.

This is very interesting, considering that a set of ink cartridges for these printers cost almost as much as the R200 printer itself. How many prints were you making per month?
