Can some of the experts out there recommend a decent camera for a newbie? I have been thinking about starting a website that contains pretty ladies on hot cars, and just want to see what I might be getting myself into.

Currently I am just using a Sony Cybershot camera for all of my picture taking and it is just not good enough for me.

Any help/recommendations/info that you guys can offer up is very much appreciated.

I'd say either a Canon 300D (digital rebel) or a Nikon D70 ...both have good systems for expansion for if you want to expand your shooting capabilities later on..

will be a great improvement. If you can try out any of the DSLR from Canon, Fuji, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax or Sigma it will help you decide. They are all pretty great and there are advantages of each system. You need to decide what feels right and works best for you.

I have a Canon 10D and have been very happy with it. It fits my hand and the controls seem natural to me. They have a great lens lineup for what I wanted to do. When it comes to the image quality I think all the DSLR are pretty equal. So go with what feels good.

I would have to say a Digital Rebel would be your best bet. However, if you think you will be getting serious in the next year or so, I would recommend stepping up to the 10D if you can afford it. Eveyone I have spoken to about the Rebel loves it, but inevitably wishes they had just gotten the 10d to start (I just bought the 10d based on that advice).

Now, that is not to say Nikon doesn't make a good product, I've just never used their products as I decided I liked Canon when I was shopping around. The Canon just "felt" better to me.

Standard disclaimer: The above statement is merely my opinion, because, well, you asked for opinions. So don't nobody bother e-mailing me to tell me "just becasue you like something doesn't mean someone else will" Relax people

I shoot with a 10D and love it. Canon's EOS 20D (8.2MP/5fps) will be available for about the same price of $1,499.00 in a couple of weeks-according to my local dealer. Got my name down for one.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll have to go out and price the ones you mentioned. I can't afford to lay down alot of cash right now.

I would say that you could get away with a high end point and shoot like a Minolta Dimage A2, or Canon Powershot Pro series camera, or even an Olympus 8080, but fact is from the type of shooting and business you are looking to get into, a digital SLR might be the way to go.

If you have nothing to base off of, nothing to worry about being compatible too, here is a little run down of suggestions

Canon: Digital Rebel 300D, Canon EOS 10D (should have a price drop soon) Canon EOS 20D (if you got the money for it, here is a great place to start)

Nikon: The Nikon D70. Perfect for what your looking for good price range.

Fuji: Finepix S2, a great camera battle tested, but the price tag is still a little high.

And if you got a "daddy warbucks" in your corner and someone is willing to give you a lot of wampum to get the best cameras out there

Canon : Canon 1ds, Canon 1d Mark II (look into this if you only really need speed, its a fine camera all the same, but unless you need the speed look into the 20d)

Kodak: DCS Pro (I would suggest Nikon body over canon, canon lenses better, but nikon's body design is superior then the Canon mounted one) High dollars, high quality, not built for speed

Nikon: The D1x there is still a $500 rebate on it i think, but on dollars and common sense, look into another camera for the price (1ds or DCS), pending release of another high end nikon digital SLR coming this fall though

Fuji: Finepix S3, nice little review for it on DPREVIEW, i am a little skeptical for my own reasons on the camera still, but time will tell if this is going to be in the higher end of digital SLR's for the next few years.

Any thoughts questions or comments feel free

Jason, thank you for all the information my friend.

I'll read up more on the recommended cameras, but it sounds like the Canon EOS 10D might be the one for me.
