I miss worded my last post. I'll try agian. I set my Canon 10D Digetal on RAW+JPEG which allows you to record JPEG simultaneously which is embedded within the RAW file. I have the option to set the Image-Recording quality. My question: If I don't need to extract the JPEG file from the RAW file isn't to my advantage to set the JPEG quality to SMALL rather than LARGE to save media space? Is there any advantage to extract JPEG file from the RAW file if I'm going to be working with the RAW file for the final product? I would be saving the RAW file to JPEG or TIFF.

If you are not planning on extracting the .jpg file, than you are correct you are best to set the quality to its smallest amount giving you more space for photos. The embeded .jpg file size has no impact on the quality of the RAW file itself or on the quality of the resulting .jpg that you get from developing the RAW file.

On my 256Mb card I got 8 extra exposers by setting the embeded .jpg to small.

Aaaaaaaah....Yep!

When I shoot RAW, I don't have a use for the jpg image...and wish it didn't come on board because I have to end up tossing each one away..
