I currently shoot with the D1X but I've been considering the purchase of the Kodak DCS Pro SLR/n as a second camera and I'm wondering what others (users and non-users alike) thought of the camera?

First off, the promotion from Kodak with DCS pro purchase includes the following
after purchase, Kodak will then send you a free starter kit, including:
1. 2GB Lexar Card
2. free extra battery
3. free extra charger
4. free sensor cleaning kit

Which as we know, things that don't exactly make you frown when the word free is added to it.

I spent a good chunk of time recently with Hanson Fong and Michael Taylor who is the PPA president, and they were both playing with the DCS pro's both Nikon and Canon. In the end, I think I like the Nikon version a little bit better. Focusing although not a Indy Racecar was better then the canon mounted body version of the DCS pro. My thoughts after playing with it a day is the following

Great portrait camera.
Not Built for speed
ISO 400 and above still needs some work
Good grip
Power effecient.

Got both DCS pro's in stock, if you want drop me a line see what we can work out.

Going to try to get some DCS pro's for demo at this little schindig if anyone is interested

I did a lot of checking out... I was going to do the same thing. Three deal breakers did it for me... and unless all three are addressed, I'd never use one.

1) Slow write times... VERY slow...6 seconds RAW and 15 seconds PER IMAGE for JPG. Shoot a burst of images and then wait 3 minutes for them to flush. No thank you.

2) "Purple Fringinng" a/k/a/ Magenta Fringing around high-contrast items. Horrible.

3) Slow wakeup and recalibration to temperature.

All I consider it useful for is portraiture in studio.

I've had the D-70 for a month now and rarely pick my D-100 up anymore.

It's superior in almost every way. I just wish it had a grip.

Shot last night with the D-70
