Hi,

I'm looking for a new lend for my d100/f100. I want the Nikon 70-200 f2.9, and was planning on getting it today.

The guy at Calumet said, take a look at the Sigma, its half the price, and a great lens...

Sammys says... what the heck do you want that crappy Sigma thing for??? Get the Nikon.

Ok, maybe the sammys person was on comission... dont know. but, is there a noticable difference in the glamour world?? Andy Pearlman suggested the Tamron, but its discontinued...

Thanks!!

Chris

I have three Sigma lenses.. Love all of them... but then I have a Sigma SA-7 camera. And I use the lenses with that camera..

Going to hopefully get the Sigma Digital Camera someday.. then I can use the same lenses on it as well.

I have the 24-70 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8 from sigma. I love them on my 10D. I used sigma lenses back on my nikon film cameras too.. Never had any problems

Chris,

I'm currently using a couple of Sigmas with my D100. Would have liked to have purchased Nikon glass but at this time just could not justify the cost. So far I've been vary happy and no problems.

Since I've started using Sigma's prime lenses, I'll never buy another Nikkor again.

70-200 2.8 EX HSM

The HSM lenses are totally worth it...This lens locks and tracks focus so fast and quietly that it still makes my head spin.

I've been using Sigma lenses on my Canon (film cameras) for years now, and I've had no complaints. Hope some day to buy a Canon digital and see how the Sigma works with one of them. But for now, I'll have to be content with my Olympus E-10.

Right on, Jon. I have the EX HSM 70-200mm f2.8 and it's the lens I use most. I do have a nice Nikkor lens but my other lens of choice is the 24-70mm f2.8 Sigma. Besides the filter size being 82mm, it's a great lens as well. The focusing speed is just about instantaneous and quieter than a whisper. Great for weddings or other low-volume events.

Good day sir!

Mike

All shot with the 70-200mm f2.8 Sigma.

Having been a former camera store manager for many, many years it's more likely that a Sigma sale would earn a camera store salesman a much higher commission than a Nikon lens sale. I'm pretty sure the Samy's salesperson was stating their opinion and nothing else.
