I have had my Nikon D100 for about a year, with no problems I know of, other than the repeated failures of the Wein digital slaves (that fit onto the hot shoe) that I use to trigger the studio flash lights via a PC cord. I use the Wein models HSHSB and HSHSBD. I purchased three of them, and two failed within a few months (which isn't much shooting as I am a part-time shooter), meaning they would not trigger the flashes, not even with the test button. Wein nicely replaced them. The second replacement unit quickly failed (loose connection for the PC cord) and was replaced by Wein with the HSHSBD unit. Well, this unit failed in its first photo session. I was shooting away, and after about an hour, it just stopped triggering the flashes, not even with the test button. Don't see anything wrong externally. I was able to continue the shoot by using one of my other older Wein units. I have since tested the failed unit with other PC cords, another camera, all with same results: won't trigger the studio flashes (White Lightning ultra zap 1600s usually set fairly high power).
Any ideas as to what is causing the failures? Could it be my White Lightnings? The camera? My bad luck? Wien engineering?
Thanks,
Pete

I couldn't get a Safesync to work on my Nikon CoolPix 5700 with my Vivitar 283. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't.

Got my E-1 now and it works flawlessly with the built in PC connection. Can't wait to get my Alien Bees next week to see how it works with a real studio flash system.

I have had my safe sinc from Wein and it has worked great all year. I shoot about 8 times a month all year with no trouble. I have a D100

My first safe sync failed after about a year. Wein replaced it with the newer model with the test button on it. This new one will fire a flash attaced via the pc connection but the hot shoe connection will not work. It looks like a poorly connected circuit board is the problem. I cannot fault weins customer service, they are always very curtious and quick to replace defective products. But it sure seems there workmanship is going down hill. Does anybody know of another brand of safe sync?
