I was at a wedding seminart recently where two representatives from Calumet attended......along with the equipment they were showing (1Ds & 1D Mark II demos), one spoke of a new Canon digital camera in the making that should be released at Photokena... According to them, it will be based similarly on the EOS 3 body... with the same 8MP 1.3 CMOS chip as the Mark II.....but won't have the same frame rate or buffer.. It will be retailed at 3,000.00... ...and was not to replace the 10D...This is all they said....and I asked them where they heard this from and they said that it was from a "reliable source".

........and that was all she wrote!

Well, I'm jumping in my seat! What sucks about this is that now I can't wait for Summer to end! I hope this is all accurate..

I'm anxious to see the camera to replace the 1Ds.

I have a question about the 10D....
Has anyone experienced the 10D LED lights on the control panel just disappearing and the power shutting down, even though the batteries are fresh ?

Yes, I have experienced something similar to this on my old D30...(before I had it fixed).. The top buttons didn't function...and oif I took a shot and tried to preview it, it would shut the camera down imediately.....and this happened inconsistantly too....so, naturally I took it in to the local repair shot and tried to duplicate the problem and it worked fine for them...until I walked out of the store... I think it could tell that it was being looked at .....why else the attitude? dumb thing just had to be a pain in the ass for me until I had to send it in for repairs...and then it suddenly behaved for me...

So, it might just need some gremlin extraction.......Yep..

Today, a Shutterbug reader sent me this spy photo of the new camera that appeared recently on a German website. It has been enhanced by him and appears as it was sent to me.

Me too... however, I am hoping that the 1Ds will come down to what I think would be reasonable prices.. I saw a demo going for 6900...but that is just too much for me to justify buying it.. I can see myself with a pair of "journalism" bodies and a "studio" camera for my commercial stuff...

.....Well, I have finally begun upgrading my wide angle stuff.. Yesterday, I placed an order for the 50mm, 35mm and 24mm f1.4's.. and I'll be getting the 14mm L next week... After that, I'm buying all the TS lenses...which would be nice because I have been renting them from a friend in town each time.. If I get the 1Ds I'll have a very decent wide angle lens system for them.. I'm just glad that digital cameras have finally gotten a lot better and more usable...so that I can invest in glass once again.. These are the first lenses I have bought since I was forced into going digital nearly three years ago..

Have fun with those buttons!

I have been very happy with just two lenses, the 24-70L and the 70-200L IS (and a 1.4x extender). I was planning to get the 15mm Canon lens after I get the 1D, but I would love to hear about (and see samples of) how you like the 14mm...

good luck
