What's the best way to print up some proof sheets, maybe six images per 8x11 sheet? I know I could resize everything and manually do the layout -- but there must be an automated tool? I'm running Photoshop 8, ACDSee 2.4, LView Pro 2.1, thanks.

Lynn,
In Photoshop go to file, Automate, ContactsheetII. The contact sheet tool is fairly straight forward and easy to understand. You can adjust it to put as many images on the page as you like.

Program called Compupic allows you to kick out the contact sheets as jpegs which allows you to print them thru photoshop and your current color management as well as have stored contact sheets for any reason...just open and print....only thing was setting the file size to the pixel sizes of a 8.5x11 which wasnt hard... You can change header to models name...and footer tells you page what of how many...you can change from 4-40 per page....whatever you choose...

Can ya tell I love this product?

lol..

Ditto on Photoshop but you have even a better way to get them.

First you should have a folder with the images from the one model in it. Go to the Browser in PSCS and flag all the images that you want in the proof sheet. Then you can go to Automate in the Browser and Contact Sheet II for your set up. In this way you only print out the contact sheet of the best images and not the whole folder. I tried the photoshop way...prob I kept running accross was the way it resized the images for the contact sheet....always got fuzzy images...with the compupic in my workflow i end up with the final pics in a folder by themselves....so I want all of them on the contact sheet....and compupic I can take them from full 11x14 tiffs to the compupic contact sheets and the resizing is right....but it could be I was doing something wrong in photoshop...

Just my couple of cents worth... I use either photoshop or my old favorite.... Graphic Workshop for Windows by Alchemy Mindworks, Inc.

It lets you choose which pics to include, it resizes them and lets you pick from portrait or landscape printing. It also allow you to set headers and or footers for the printed pages.. lets you save the file for future use, many features for converting images to various formats too.

Free to use (with a nag screen), or registration is about $40.00 (US).

Thanks to everyone for the good and useful replies. Since I already have Phsp8 loaded, I'm using that, changed the output resolution from 72 to 300, everything is fine!

Don't know about ACDSee 2.4 since I'm runnign 3.1 of that program... I use ACDSee for my contacts because I shoot in RAW format most of the time, and Photoshop takes forever to process the .NEF files into contacts... ACDSee does it in a flash.

EDIT > SELECT all the images in a folder then FILE > PRINT CONTACT SHEET. You can adjust the number of images per sheet, the margins, the spacing, just about everything that you could ask for.

Thanks, cool, I do love ACDSee, and here's a good reason to upgrade my level. BTW, I fed a couple of dozen 30M tiffs to Photoshop8, relaxed for two minutes, and I had my three contact sheets.
