Just getting my site up -- does anyone have gallery page building software they can recommend? And/or a recommendation for an ecommerce partner or software to sell pics from the site? Not Paypal, please -- heard too many horror stories.
Thanks,
Rob

I am in the same boat as you presently. From what I have tracked down, JAlbum seems to be a pretty neat and effective program. The price is hard to beat, too. It's offered free at the creator's website ... jalbum.com ... although if you look hard enough he will take a donation.

If you want a fast glance at a few of the templates (they call them skins) offered you could check my site at hicspix.com. The two links at bottom lead to a pair of galleries I built using JAlbum (with just a couple of minor adjustments). Note that my site is just underway so don't freak at the spartan opening page -- all being worked on as time allows. LOL

Good luck with it!

Dave

I don't know much about gallery software,
but do you have a merchant account with the major credit cards?
If not. If not, don't worry.

The rates are reasonable, and the service is good.
They can have you live and running in a couple of days.

Mention you were referred to by Visual Effects Company.

Dave,
Your site is looking good, nice images too. You may want to consider adding some way to get back to the root directory. The way you have it set up now you have to click the back button numerous times to get back to your homepage if your very deep in the galleries. Some people wouldn't bother, they would just click out to somewhere else.

Thanks, Mark, some very valid observations. I just got the site a week or so ago and wanted to put something up as more of a placeholder than anything else. I guess I could have been more specific about that ... lol. It will definitely be evolving and will contain what you noted (and much more) once I get the time to sit down and map it all out over the next few months.

Next up ... scanning and toning three decades of work --- fun fun fun!

My pleasure, Rob.

Having gone through the search a week ago I figured you'd enjoy both the software and the shortcut. The program impressed me so much that I (gasp!) actually sent the author a donation. Not something I do very easily ... lol

Enjoy it and best of luck with your galleries site!

I've been using Arles image web page creator www.digitaldutch.com for the past three years and it just keeps getting better. With one click - the software takes all the files in a directory (JPG or PSD), builds thumbnail images (with borders, drop shadows, etc)-- builds the enlarged images (again with borders, shadows, and will put your copywright on each image) and it will develop all the HTML navagation. All you do is click one button.

If you're more experienced with HTML, you can customize this program to include ad banner on your pages, or special javascript to prevenit right clicking, etc.

It's easy -- it's cheap -- it's the best I've found.
Check out my website to see how the pages look -- all done with Arles.

You might want to try a program called Gallery. It's free too. It's what I use on my page. It's pretty easy to set up on the server and you upload the pictures to it and it automaticly resizes the pictures to make thumbnails. It's also fairly easy to customize the looks of it. It also has options built-in to print to several printing services. I haven't messed with any of that though.
