So, the Canon web site indicates that this is a miscellaneous error and to turn off the camera and then turn it back on to fix the problem. It get's kind of irritating doing that very 4th - 75th shotso I e-mailed their support and found that apparently I have a failing accessory. CooL! I should just find out which one and get it fixed. So, with the assitance of the acessories on my partner's camera that has never had a problem with this error, I replaced all my accessories with his. I STILL got the error.

I've e-mailed Canon back and let them know I've replaced everything but still have the problem. We'll see what they say.

Has anyone else experienced this? What was the final solution?

Thanks. Bye for now.

I remember a problem similar to this ( not sure which error number it was) basically tossed the CF card and everything has been OK since.

Are you shooting with studio lights? I think I fried my 10D before I got some wireless for my lighting. It did not quit when I was using my studio lights but it did a couple weeks later. I had to send it off to have it fixed by Canon and have not had a problem since. HTH, Jim

I used a solid metal connection radio transmitter and got that error. I got it once on location shooting an event. Like to [censored] myself. I remove the battery to reset my error. I got home, blew out the body with some air and haven't had any other problems. I have noticed that my 28-80 USM II isn't autofocusing as good as it used to. I've sent the lens off and Canon said it was fine. I've got about another month on my 10D warranty. Maybe I'll send it in for the heck of it.

I have gotten the Error 99 and it happened when the sync cord was plugged into the power pack with a reverse polarity. It does not affect most cameras but the canon. I just reversed the cord. Turned off the camera and pulled the battery and then reinstalled the battery and turned the camera back on and no problem.

Well, I've replaced the card, the lens, the batteries, the battery pack and I've shot with and without studio lights and I still get the problem.

Guess I'll have to call Canon for quick answers.

....Unfortunately, it has to be sent in.....and they will probably have to replace the shutter to fix it.. My friend Dan had the same problem....it would intermittently blink ERROR 99.......and as time went on, it happened more frequently... He used to shoot with Sigma lenses and Canon told him that "they were the problem".....well, he sent them in for rechipping....(hasn't gotten them back yet which was last December....but that is a whole different topic)......and eventually bought a Canon 70-200L lens yet the problem still occurred.....and continuallygot worse to a point where it was impossible to get rid of it... I think it is a problem like when your computer gets full of [censored] and needs a good wipeing... He sent it in to Canon and now they say.....it needs a new shutter .....so the last I heard, he's waiting for that to come back... in the mean time, he's enjoying his new (used) flawless working 1D

It's a good idea to keep a back up body laying around just incase your current one takes a crap on you..

Best of luck!

JP

Dave,
You weren't shooting with studio lights without a safe sync or wireless trigger were you? If so, then most likely you have damaged the shutter contacts.

Hmmmmm......well, sometimes when I am just farting around taking self portraits of myself looking mean in my studio, I hard wire the sinc cord to my cameras.... and so far I haven't had any problem...on any body....either one of my 10D bodies or my old D30...or any of my past film bodies... Is there some sort of power surge that can happen with some lights that I have been lucky enough to avoid by dumb luck??
