Hi everyone! I know that this topic has been discussed over and over (I've searched the forum), but I was wondering if someone can help me on my specific problem...

I'm shooting with my Canon EOS 10D and the last shoot has been my first time shooting raws (I love it!). I processed everything under ADobe 1998 because it has the biggest color space and converts to CMYK better... But..I really do a lot of web work and I noticed that when I save my jpegs, the color looks more green...and lost a lot of the warmth. This is when I look at it on any other program outside of photoshop even with the same monitor. But as soon as I open it back on photoshop, the colors are back to where I set them.

So then I went back and converted the jpegs to SRGB since most monitors are calibrated to see SRGB better and instead..all the pictures look even more green!

So my question is this... Since I want to continue to shoot in Raw format and I primarliy do web work...should I do all my color corrections under srgb or adobe 1998. Any information would be wonderful.. Thank you!

Perform the color corrections in Adobe RGB. There's more leeway in correcting skin tones and reds.

Then before you save the image for the web convert the image to sRGB with the Mode>Convert to Profile... command from the Image menu. Your source space should be Adobe RGB (or what you shot your image in). Set the destination space to sRGB IEC61966-2.1..

Hey John! Great website by the way... I followed your instructions and saved it the regular way instead of the "save for web" and it actually came out extra red! Lol hahahhaha so now all my model's pictures are extra pink/red. lol hahahhaha this is soo crazy.

JEn

Thank you so much for your tip though...I'm going to try that one a few more times to see if I can master it. Also.. when you edit your pictures for your site..do you ever notice that it looks different on photoshop and when you open it directly..even though it's on the same monitor? Different meaning the color. Ok thank you again!!

Jen,

I'm not sure how you've configured the color settings in Photoshop. If you are using the Canon software (File Viewer Utility) to convert the raw images, the images are not tagged with any color profiles. You may need to use the [b}Mode>Assign Profile... command on the image first.

If the image is saved in the sRGB profile, it should look the same (or very close) in Photoshop and other programs.

Ah ha! I think that's the difference...I convert all my Raws in Photoshop CS. But after hours and hours of playing with the settings...I figured out that when I set my color profile as my own monitor calibration (which I always calibrate with the pantone spyder) it comes out pretty darn perfect. Thank you soo much for all your help John!
