Don't really know what to say, I've only been shooting with canon for about a year 1D2 1Ds2 before that all my shooting was on nikon and hasselblad.
Both cameras perform well but I'm not a volume...

The way I see it is you added the strong contrasty lighting for some drama to the image, and if thats what you intended then I'd leave the highlights both on the leg and jaw. Taking them away softens...

Dean your wife/model has a lovely face.. Move in closer or zoom in to a much tighter crop, angle her shoulders as you suggested, shoot from slightly above and get her to lean her face into the camera...
