I think you should go with the color version but saturate it more and add a slight color shift towards yellow. That will make it look more...

Earl is right about the posing...the instruction is weak in that area. I've been lucky that my favorite subject is my wife and since she has no posing skills i get to practice my communication...

I took the NYIP course.
I liked it very much. The course lets you work at your own pace and they teach you the fundamentals of photography. The course consists of workbooks, audio tapes...

thanks for the response...the pictures do look a little washed out..i think it happened when i saved for web..i will try and resave them.
The background is one of those translucent folding...

I used a daylight rated flourescent bulb from home depot with an umbrella. I white balanced in camera and touched up...

I gave it a try...
clone tool to remove the zits
some noise and despeckle and then opacity adjustments.
It may be too soft for your taste but it was a nice challenge for me.
