Just my opinion, the first shot I like in color because it adds warmth to the shot and makes it feel more natural as to the setting. The second works for me either way.

Try adjusting the settings on the camera. If digital you should find a setting adjustment to "optimize" the image ie: normal, vivid, soft, softer, sharp, landscape, direct print, portrait, custom....
