Q for the PC geeks

This is really odd. In the last couple of days I've had to copy shoot files from my laptop to a desktop using a wireless connection (located about 4 feet from the wi-fi router) at 54 Mpbs and tonight...

Re: Finally a Canon 5D

Ummm... when they do that it usually means a product is about to be replaced in the line. I wonder if there's something like a 5DsM2 (a 16mp version of the 5D) in the wings somewhere. That would be...

Peter Gowland - birthday today

Just a quick note who may not have gone back to read the Gowland thread after I posted the note about his birthday. I got an email from him this morning telling me his inbox has been inundated with...

Here's some things you didn't know...

Not only do I remember Peter (and his great wife Alice) I still talk to them on occasion (most recently last Xmas). Of course if you know my work, you see Peter's influence all over it, and yes, he...

Re: Sunset Bikini

Well I'll be the odd man out here, I think it looks phony for a couple reasons. First, your color temperature. The cool color of the studio lights clashes with the warm sunset. If you're shooting...

Re: Taxes - Scary stuff!

OK, I'm not an accountant or an attorney, and some of this may be governed by the laws in your state, but: Models are usually NOT employees whether you hire them directly or through an agency,...

Re: Jennifer L, from Nashville

Really very nice, especially the B/W #5 & #7. You must move the lights around between every pose. Are you using grids or eggcrates on these (the b/w)? As someone said, very Hurrell.

Regards,
Andy...

Re: MUAs please read and reply

Don't bother, except for maybe some emergency lip gloss, mascara, and powders (a few different shades), and as someone else stated, some basic disposable application and cleanup supplies - MU...

Re: What does this mean?

Its probably someone looking to build a library of "royalty free" images to sell as disks on online. No true pro would even talk to these folks. Even if one were to do a deal with an RF company, they...

Re: This place is perfect!

I'm not sure you can count on a particular time of year, since its more dependent on being there shortly after it rains, and the water drys up leaving the cracks. These dry lake beds never have much...

Re: shooting stock

[ QUOTE ]
I think part of it is overhead and distribution. It costs money to print a 300-600 page color glossy book of your stock catalog, develop slides, make and develop copy slides, catalog...

shooting stock

Before I comment on a couple things in this, you might want to check out a long post I made on March 3 - a couple weeks ago. Do a search for "want to shoot" in the Main forum and you should see it....

interesting list but...

I notice that on the list of images they've got covered, none indicate images with people in them, while the ones they need seem to all call for people. Could it be because the ones "with people"...

I like it

I like it a lot. It can be tough to do a shot like this because you have to use flattering colors, and you don't want them to overpower the model. And she's very cute, which is another reason why it...

Re: Are you using XP ?

Yes I did. There is nothing under "Accessability" that even remotely looks like "Fax". Under "Communications" there is a Fax tab, but all that does is open a folder of Fax cover sheets. I'm using XP...

Re: DigiMarc Technology

yes it would embed in the print image, but what good will that do if you have no way to search for it? A print (copied from a calendar) hanging on someone's wall or even on sale on Ebay (scanned and...

All I can tell you

My experience with Hensel is limited to what I have - a Porty power pack with one head and a ringlight - so I can't tell you anything about their other heads and I know nothing about the...

Yep, went Canon all the way. I'm in the process of putting together my ebay list of the Nikon stuff, I'll be sure to post a message on GG when I do.

Re: DigiMarc Technology

There's a lot of problems with DM, I tried it once. First of, it can degrade the image somewhat, and it gets lost complelely if the image is re-sized somewhat. Then there's the issue of having to pay...

Nope, nothing

I do have a regular dial-up modem as well as broadband, but I must have the only computer in the world without built in fax software - I've looked everywhere. When I open Word there is no "print to...

Re: fax software anyone?

That would be a great idea, and I didn't know Word could do that, but there's only one problem. When I turn off the cover sheet (don't need one, don't want to annoy the recipients with one), it grays...

not worried about those...

Its not the small JPGs being stolen I'm so worried about. How about when I have images in a full size printed calendar? Those are really easy to copy and re-use. I know because I keep shutting down...

Re: fax software anyone?

The problem is, each document is to be customized with the recipient's name, so I can simply take one document and bulk fax it to all 53 recipients. I was just trying to avoid printing out 53 docs...

Yeah, I thought that would get some attention...
