Currently featured on GG's front page... Shannon Waldrep of Atlanta
No prep time, no assistance, Shannons makeup bag stolen the night before... But thats not what I'm looking for here.
Comments and suggestions on composure, lighting, color, and anything else you could throw at me is most helpful. A little background on the set, Camera- D100, Lenses- Nikon 28-105 and 80-200, love the 80-200 but I just donít have enough space inside, duh, 2 Speedotron black line strobes, one for main and one bounced into a white card off to the left of the frame for fill, very old but reliable Novatron strobe for backlight and black cloth for the background. I donít know why I went black, It was just there and I had no time to change. First two frames contain nothing special from PS and the third was colored to see something different.
Let me hear some comments... Critique me... Thanks

I think the only thing that troubles me is the slight distractions in the background.

Image 1 has a small crease to the right of the guitar.

Image 2 has a shape to the left that runs diagonally (a pole?)

Image 3 has a blue spot to the left and some "noise" near the hand.

Other than these "distractions" i find the images are well lit and the model seems to look pretty good (despite the makeup tragedy).

Thanks Greg, it's the dag-gum background I think. It had seams that were visible to the eye but were about 4 or 5 stops darker than the main light. Being a film shooter for the last 25+ years, I can't get over how much these digital cameras pick up. You know, the latitude or sensitivity, whatever you call it.
Thanks again

Black instrument parts and wardrobe disappear into the background. Lighting seems a little lifeless. Not clear whether you're pushing the instruments or the girl.

In short, it's looks like what you described: a half-hearted effort.

I would loose the coloring on the guitar in shot 3. I also makes the models hair look gray. But I think if you accentuated the product it would be fine.

Okay, lets talk attractive lady and nice axes...

#1 As Mike pointed out, that ebony head on the hollow body just disappears. Looks like the machines are hanging in mid-air. Kind of an unfortunate expression on her face.

#2 Much the same background problem, and it now includes her torso. I like this one the best, but I'd probably rotate her about 10 degrees left if it was mine. That's no guitar. Looks like a 5 string bass.

#3 The top edge of the solid body looks weird where the wood tone is close to natural with all the rest of it dark. Looks like a PS slip in the coloring. The hand positions just don't work for me. One of the most difficult things to make look right is the hand positions if the model doesn't really play. Now you'll probably say she does play -- professionally. Oh well...

So in summary - black background, hand positions, 1 facial expression, PS coloring - coulda been better.
