I was working on a sort of mono-tonal qualilty type image and thought this might work well as an example. Any comments. Model is Kay Lynn.

As far as the color tones having the mono tone look, I think that your example would be what you were trying to accomplish. Subtle light and shade and a good looking model too. I might like to see a similar pose with her left hand showing from under the material that she is holding, but I still like what you have here.

For the sake of clarity in thinking about and discussing images, you should use more appropriate terminology.

Monotonal means having one tonal value. For example, a grey card is monotonal. Other examples would be an evenly-lit, solid-colored backgrounds.

Monochromatic means having only one color. A black & white image is monochromatic.

Low-contrast means there is only a small range between the lowest and highest tonal values.

Saturation refers to the intensity of colors.

Your photo appears to be a low-to-moderate contrast image with low-to-moderate color saturation containing primarily beige and pink tones.

As far as content, "girl biting finger" ranks right up there with "girl leaning on tree" and "girl squeezing breasts together" on the list of glamour cliches.

monochromatic, high-contrast "girl staring at camera" cliche

Definitons are nice, but one must remember that "the map is not the territory". Words are used to communicate and if people understand what you are saying, then the words are working. I believe most people will see the image and realize that I was using the word in the "sense" of meaning a limited range of tonal qualities.
As far as cliches, go, I don't believe there are any in photography. Certainly there are many patterns that you see over and over again and they tend to become boring from overuse, but when not used for awhile, they re-emerge as the new art form of the day. I haven't seen the finger in mouth pattern for quite some time, and so I have brought it back. Here is another photo for you to consider.

Certainly you will find it would be called a cliche, but one could just as well call it a nostalgic photo. And as the gen x people get older, they start looking back fondly at these old "cliche" images.
Thanks for you comments.
Cheers,
rfs

Not to belabor the point, but you may not be communicating as effectively as you think. I'm still not sure whether you're talking about the contrast, saturation, or limited number of colors used in the image.

Love the subtle color palette. Great model, perfect background and classic glamour pose.

Minor nitpick things: Size of the fill light source is kind of small making the light on the left side of the frame a little flat. Wish we could see a little more of her left side to indicate direction of curve. Is the bikini string neon yellow?

Very nice work. Will look for more.
