Would like to hear what you folks think about these images...shot underwater with a Canon 10D with a 17-40mm L, around sunset. The second image a flash was fired from above the water...The model is nude & covered in body paints.

Nathaniel,

I just wanted to be sure to tell you that I really like that your "experimentation" is always refreshing.

#1 - I like the underwater idea. The body postition is even good (the twist underwater). I understand the circumstances may be difficult. I would just hope for 2 things. Eyes open. More in focus.

#2 - Positioning is awkward. eyes still closed. The darker image would have probably worked better if it was silohetting the body, then a focused image wouldn't be so critical. (although this one is more crisp)

Keep experimenting.

I have been wanting to try something like this too...just need to find the right place, model and a good underwater camera or housing for the A2 I have.

2 things though...you using scuba gear for this...and what about a tripod?

Richard - These were shot in a pool, with a simple $350 uwa marine housing for any camera the size of an a2 + a flash - give or take a little space...I am having issues with bouyancy, I need more weights in the casing, will work on that tomorrow. I don't want to use scuba gear, or work in really deep water, it is too dangerous for the models, and I am not equipped with a large team here...and there is no way to set up a proper tripod through the pvc casing so it is all handheld...I am using external slaves and firing a 550ex in the casing - it does not allow for an external strobe connection...This stuff wasn't as simple as I would have thought, but well worth the effort...tomorrow I plan to shoot in the stunning transparent tropical water here, though my flash was attracting barracuda the last time I tried. I will post results over the weekend.
