This was shot last Saturday and the first few times I looked at it I didn't give it much thought but now it seems to be growing on me. The model is the beautiful Miya. Miya's Portfolio

Constructive critisism is always welcome.

The image is too small to form a realistic critique, but my general impression is that this is a snapshot. The lighting is uneven, and the shadow give her a belly-pooch. The pose is also unflattering to her figure. Oh yeah, the blanket isn't red, though there is red in it.

She certainly has better and more flattering images in her portfolio.

Thank you for your comments. I do see what you mean about the uneven lighting. I shoot a lot up at this spot because it has so many nice looks to it and is very private. But I have had troubles controlling the shadowing due to the fact it's a wooded location. I used a Nikon SB-28 flash but that didn't have much of an effect. Do you have any suggestions on how to resolve this problem? How would you have handled the lighting in an outdoor woodland location?

What I do like about the pose and expression is they remind me a lot of old paintings. The kind you see in museums. Not really glamorous, more real world "matter of fact" sort of pose. I guess that's as close to describing it as I can get.

Hi Scott,

I actually like this image very much. I think I would like it more if it were in black and white though, and if the belly button ring and tattoo were taken out. I think it could have a very "Eve" feel to it. The model looks simple and real, and right for an image like that. Her belly does look a tiny bit poochy, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing for this type of image. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your comments. I did think about B&W but was afraid that the detail in the background would become overpowering and detract from the subject itself.

I would agree if the composition was strongly pointing toward that eve or venice de milo look .. but I think with the introduction of the blanket it seems too plain and drab for my liking.

No offense but the way it was framed .. doesn't grab my attention.
