This is from my first shoot on a new project. This was shot with Kodak Porta 400 b+w, negative scanned by the lab - some recropping and contrast enhancement done by me.

I use such digital manipulations as a roadmap for my wet darkroom work - I try out a few things, such as crops and contrast changes, before taking the image into the darkroom for the Real Work.

All of those disclaimers aside - how do you like this image? Not necessarily the tonal values, contrast, etc., but the composition and subject. Is this a visually appealing composition?

Hi Ed,

Well, it's not a "bad" picture at all but it just doesn't do anything for me. May I also say that I am very relieved to find that someone besides me actually still shoots REAL film, and black and white at that. I love shooting black and white and I still have a wet darkroom. I also putz around with my images in PS and then sometimes I'll try and duplicate it in the darkroom or just leave it as is from my PS session.

This picture that I shot of Jade was done with black and white film (Kodak Tri-X if memory serves). I hightened the contrast just a bit in PS and then left it as is. The crop is almost exactly as shot in the viewfinder.

Good day sir!

Mike

I'm not sure I could sit still long enough to get a tattoo like that one. (I don't think I could sit still for any tattoo actually.)

You captured this ink and canvas very well. thanks.
