This was the first shot in my new studio space. The studio isnt done and is a disaster right now and stuff is everwhere but I just had to take a pic today. I have been out of the photography world for better then 15 years and am anxious to get back in. Mostly thanks to this site. Last time I shot primarily landscapes. There will be alot more images comming soon, but I would appreciate any and all comments. I have learned alot already from all of you on this site and hope to learn alot more. Feel free to be brutaly honest with me. I dont offend easily.

Hey Scott! Welcome aboard. The first thing I notice about your shot is that your model seems to be wearing a really big white shirt that has a big red X on it...so big I can't even see her! Although the picture is a little small so maybe I'm just missing her somewhere there.

Seriously though, I think something went wrong, I don't see your picture I see a placeholder for where a picture should be. Give it another go, I'd love to see what you've got!

Had the same problem. Just right click>show picture. So, whats your prior experience, and what are you shooting now? I like your pic, with the exception of the slightly tucked chin/ head position. Welcome and thanks for sharing. George

Ron
First thing I noticed is she is framed landscape not portrait. Maybe you shot landscapes too long. Her tucked chin is an issue as someone mentioned and she doesn't pop on my screen, which may be because your ratio of main to fill light was more flat. Anyway, welcome and I hope you have a great time here.

Hi Scott,

Welcome to GG! You have ventured into the finest forum you'll ever find with some of the finest shooters to be found as well! If growth is what you're after as a photographer, look no further.

I like the picture. She has a pretty smile. Someone already mentioned the tucked chin so I won't beat that to death. On my monitor she appears to have an awful lot of red in her skin. Did you shoot this digitally or scan a print or slide? I'm still in the Jurassic world of shooting film (even though I love film but others would say I'm behind the times) and I know that certain emulsions render skin tones differently. That's the only reason I ask. My monitor is NOT calibrated to my Photoshop program or to my lab's equipment so take this with a pound of salt.

Again, welcome! You'll not leave here disappointed if you came here to learn to make new and wonderful friends and acquaintenances.

Good day sir!

Mike

This was shot digitally. This was a spur of the moment shot. The model is my wife and she stopped by to see how the studio was comming so I grabbed the camera and snapped the pic. I didnt give her time to do hair or makeup. I agree about the chin. But all I said to her was sit here and I snapped the pic. I also agree with the lighting issues... I hope to get some more shots this weekend that are a little better. Although they wont be of her...She is being mean and leaving me with our teenage daughter while she takes off to Memphis tonight. And the worst part is that she is going just for fun...It's not even for work.

Anyway, thanks to all for the comments.
