The image is very soft and diffuse, was that the effect you were trying for? I do like the catchlights in her eyes.

The image was sharper, until uploading to my GG portfolio. For some reason it was showing overly soft. in my first attempt for this post.
So I have uploaded to flickr and posted the same pic with nothing done to it since posting the original post. the flickr linked image is on top. original linked image from my GG port is on bottom.

EDIT:
After posting both pics i see the GG one seems to have been resized. that probably is why it got a lil more blurry. i'll just post to flickr from now on for, photographs used in posts.

I noticed the difference right away. The image from flickr is sharper and shows more details. I've been using photobucket and flickr for posts on these websites.

There is a maximum size for each image that is posted here and/or to a members GG portfolio. Not having posted images in a while I am not sure what the maximums are but I seem to remember something on the order of 640 x 680 and a maximum image size of 300k.

If you try to post images larger than this the system will automatically downsize the images and there might very well be a loss of quality and/or sharpness in the image.

Personally, I do not care at all for Flicker and do not use it. I have had problems with that site as have a number of others I know but if it works for you that is great.

For anyone else who happens across this thread;

The GG software does indeed resize photos and does a pretty bad job at it in my opinion. The limits here are 600X600 pixels and 250KB. If you want to use the GG portfolio option, you should resize your original size photo to 600 pixels on the long side using your own software before uploading. Resizing an already resized jpg will also lead to soft images. By doing this, GG will just accept the photo without any additional resizing.

I hope that helps!

Please don't make me say "resize" again.

I want to add something to Jude's comment and that is to ALWAYS make any sharpening you do to an image in post-production the VERY last step before you save the image. Also, whenever an image is to be posted on the Internet use the Save For Web function in Photoshop. This strips away the metadata and makes a smaller file size which can be useful on web sites that have a file size limitation.

Be aware that even though it does make the file size a tiny bit smaller it does strip away any IPTC data you may have added, as well as your copyright and contact data. I generally prefer to leave all that intact in case a potential client wants to contact me.

This is one of the reasons I have different settings in Lightroom and PS when I want to post the same image to various sites. Each has their own restrictions.

Of course the other way to get around this is to determine the smallest file allowance and only post that one to everywhere.
