I like this. It's a simple shot but nice in my opinion.

Jesse, i am wondering, what do you use for flash units?

the reason I ask is, i wanted to suggest to you, using an off camera flash. Even a simple camera flash held in your hand and remotely triggered by your camera might give you some nice results.

If interested, maybe grab a set of these cheapos off ebay and play around with them.

As for what flash to get to go with these cheapo wireless, I will get back to you I am not current on whats popular at the moment. Been awhile since hitting up the strobist community.

Using a set just like the link above, i got this result, below, while using an old Minolta 4000AF flash attached to one of the receivers.

looks like an available light shot in florescent light. Which is weird that they would have florescent lights in a recording studio, those things make noise that the mic's pick up very well.

the eyes don't have any light in them and are kind of dead... you could have gelled a flash with a florescent filter and then bounced it or dialed it way back in power just to fill the shadows a bit. That would have also helped liven the color up a little as well... florescent light kind of leaches color out of stuff.

This one is gelling the flashes to incandescent.... and then shooting with incandescent white balance.

I agree that the eyes need a little light in them. Also with light coming from directly overhead, like a florescent ceiling light, you often get heavy bags under the eyes like you notice in this shot.

First thing I noticed as well. Get a reflector, or even just a white card under there to get those shadows exiled. Drop the chin a little perhaps, and then drop one EV down to get rid of the clutter in the background.
