I used 9 posts that got 9509 views and only 61 comments in the Critiques section. Looks like a site full of lurkers to me.

Shakka,
I agree that this site is mostly lurkers now. Not too many real photographers bother dropping by anymore. But I do have to say that in most of your posts you do not specifically ask for comments. I realize that several of them were in the critic forum, but myself and I'm sure many others do not go to the actual forums page. I just access new post from the sites main page. Most of the time I don't realize what forum the post was actually made in. On your post asking for help or comment you did get a few replies. Unfortunately not nearly the response you would have gotten during this sites glory days. If your looking for some active responses you might try Fred Miranda's forums over at: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/index.php There are a good bunch of people over there. But don't give up completely on this site. I'm hoping to see it make a come back. When it started it was the best.

Thanks for your response. I am not giving up on the site. I am just trying to grow as a photographer, and communicate with people that like to do what I do.

It's not just here, it is everywhere in the Photography industry. Every Photographer I know has taken a serious hit and so many of them have scaled way back or completely gotten out of the Industry. Three years ago this site was jumping big time with some real heavy hitters in the Photography world being regular contributors but sadly time marches on.

Thanks for caring and keep posting, somebody will notice.

About three years ago, I used to be one of those frequent "posters and commenter" but the site changed. First Rolando started posting "teaser subject lines" that didn't encourage discussion or offer helpful information ... but mainly contained links to his workshops and other websites. Then another photographer started doing the same thing with links to his blog ... and others started to follow. After a few months, this "forum" was looking like nothing more than a place for some photographer to put links to their blogs and websites.

Fortunately, I continue to stay busy and have very little use (or time) to follow someone's blog, or read about yet another Rolando workshop.

BTW - Since you posted another thread on the Lingerie Football League ... I was named the "Official Photographer" for the Dallas Desire Lingerie Football League for the 2010-11 season. Maybe I'll see you later this month at the game.

For what it's worth, I have been trying to do more posting of late. Thanks for reminding me that people are looking for feedback.

I know for me I don't tend to reply a whole lot because I have the feeling that I'm not qualified to be making critiques of other peoples work. Your not alone though, I've posted here several times hoping for a whole host of good information only to receive minimal notice. I usually take it for myself one way, "it's not good enough to even comment on". Whether that's true or not is hard to say, it's just the way it feels.

So with that said, keep posting, there are people looking obviously, and once in a while someone will pop up and give you a little advice. It might even be me....

I agree with Jude's comments. I, too, wonder about my qualifications on critiquing especially given the minimal posting of my own images. I could make commentary on every image I see but would that not cause the original poster to say, "What the hell does he know about this/that?"?

I once came across a cartoon from the New Yorker. In it you see a guy standing on a chair looking intently at a painting on the wall and there are 2 women in the foreground talking to each other. The caption read, "Him? Oh he's the Art Critic. He may not know Art but he knows what he doesn't like". Kind of speaks to the qualification of many Critics...and especially here at GG.

We do have a few (less than in earlier years) qualified people but the vast majority are those guys that epitomize the spirit of GG...photographers who do this for the enjoyment...enthusiasts not Pros. So often you are going to get platitudes..."Nice Picture"...which really are of little help for growth or, as you have noticed, viewing without commentary.

GG is like the vast number of photo sites...loads of lurkers, some members, few comments. It's just the nature of the internet.

Perhaps you can take solice in the fact that people here *are* looking at your images. Yes, the silence can be deafening but at least your images are not being passed over.

So don't despair and take what you get. At least you are posting unlike others (me included) who don't have anything new to put out there for CC.

I would contribute if I could add something, but the comments that are here are better than mine would be. Still I enjoy studying the works and learning from the critiques.

I feel you on this...
But it seems like the guys here are dead on about the industry. I am on a few other sites and the TF shooters are making it hard to make a living in this field as well. The equipment is expensive and models now want you to shoot for free too. I come here to get some solid input from other highly qualified and well respected photographers and that seems to be hard to get now days. I am only making sure I am doing going work and getting better at what I do....
