im aware that the lighting is off, it was a last minute thing, and the model was late so i lost all lighting other then the pop up flash.

If that is a lamp post they are licking, you probably could have used available light more effectively then the pop up flash. Do you have a tripod?

I'm not sure what these images represent, other than pictures having fun. I see light on the side of the hair in the last frame, though out of focus, there was light, besides a pop-up flash. Perhaps you should have pumped up the ISO and used that light. The first two, are mere snapshots for Myspace photos and do nothing for the subject--my apologies, but you should have scratched the shoot and told the model, don't be late next time. I have a saying, if you can't find the image, don't fight it, move on. All the best, rg sends!

I've read this thread, and in particular Rolando's comments, several times. I think I keep coming back to it because I'm sure he'd say the same things about my photos. In fact, after reading his comments I went back to my album and found several that would fit in the category of "can't find the image". (memo to self: delete the crappy images.) But that was my starting point, so I posted what I had and sought comment. Over the last year I have replaced a lot of the images in my albums and MM portfolio with incrementally better shots (by my accounting), based on what I have learned from comment (and lack of comment) on my work here on GG. Still, I expect Rolando would say the same thing.

I have a shoot tomorrow, and I'm taking Rolando's remarks as if they were directed to me. My goal is to take photos good enough to replace the weakest ones in my portfolio, and that don't look like I got beat up in a fight for the image.

My thanks to c.td for posting.

Well then, I wish you good luck on your shoot! Please post up some of the images from it so we can see what you've learned and how far you've come!
