Howdy all,

Had the opportunity to take some shots on a friends recent farm purchase.. Sadly it was really the wrong time of day to be out in the fields, but we made the most of it...

Thanks in advance.

I don't see why you say the time of day is wrong. I like the dark fade out in the background. Only bad part is the washout detail from the flash in the foreground - too bad it can't be dialed back a bit.

I just thought the wheat stems in the foreground were a bit bright. I'm not trying to be negative & certainly know why that occurs. I just thought to improve the photo and draw the viewers eye more to the model that if the foreground wheat were a bit darker it would look nice.

There's nothing wrong with the shot. True, the detail of the blouse is blown out a bit but what were you taking a photo of, the blouse or the girl? (You needn't say.) You have a sun lit blouse and on top of that, you're throwing more light on her... So what. The surprising thing is that it's not more blown out than it is. It's a nice shot, especially with good use of Depth of Field.

However... ([smile] Did you think something was coming?) If you hadn't said it was shot on a farm during the wrong time of day, it looks studio to me. Nothing shows it was done outside. Even the darker background would indicate 'studio'. Doesn't matter where it was shot and certainly doesn't put me off liking the photo in the least. Nice job...

Hi Pariah,

Thanks for the lengthy comment I am very at home in the studio, but there is only so much you can do in there really, so out to the real world for a while.

Huge learning curve and I really got to get quicker at changing my settings (shoot in manual) as the conditions change in an instant. :-)

Atlas,

Two thumbs up! I like the composition and concept very much. The model is terrific, and her pose, wardrobe, hair (esp. color), and makeup are ideal. Love the depth of field!

Can you describe your lighting and your approach to dealing with the less-than-ideal time of day? The light seems a bit hard to me, looking at the shadow cast by the blouse. I tend to touch up shiners on the tips of noses - personal pref.

Btw, I love your presentation here. The frame is just right.
