Sand in the sun

Shot during the worse time of day with bright sun directly over head. Did this at a sand volleyball court which increased the brightness factor. Had to use some photoshop to remove the shadow from the scrim, but not sure how well I did. What do you think?

Good work in a very difficult situation. I find that the legs look odd to me - especially the right one. It almost looks like a peg leg whereas the left has more definition since I can see a partial foot.

When I view the image so that it's cropped to just below her left hand, I feel that the image is vastly improved.

Here is the original version so that you can see what I had to deal with. Didn't want to leave that shadow in the picture but it also left me with her knees in the sand and wasn't sure that making her knees complete would look right.

Go ahead and leave it in. For all anyone looking at the picture would think, she is under a small beach umbrella, which is appropriate for the scene, not a piece of photographic equipment. It might bug you, but no one else will give it a second thought. The problem with the edited shot is that the selection job makes it look like her lower body was cut and pasted onto the sand. The change in lighting from her legs to the immediately adjacent sand is abrupt and unnatural.

I was having mixed thoughts on this image so I wanted to see what others thought of it. If it had been done the way I wanted to, it would have been shot early morning or late afternoon around the golden hour.

I also like the "beach umbrella" look of the shadow. I would clone the bottom corners to look like the shadow, and then clone out the line in the sand that runs up by her shoulder. Other than that I think it's another terrific shot!

That was one of my other thoughts too. Shooting at a better time of day would have helped also, but have since come up with this other version in Photoshop.
