Afternoon in the park

I went to the park for a few hours with my favorite mood adjuster and took a few pictures of her, having spent too much time in the past 8 months shooting inside. I think I know what I will do differently next time, but I am interested in objective opinions.

Yeah, that's part of what's been bugging me the more that I look at them. Thanks for being the only person out of 175 views so far to actually bother to comment.

Make it 2 people! I agree with the composition comment. I'd like to see #1 with her in the lower left hand corner, but then you don't have anything in the picture to offset it. Same with the other two.

So, now that you look at it and say you know what you would do differently, what is it you would do differently?

I was mostly paying attention to her: pose, expression, the hat, etc. I didn't really pay enough attention to other compositional elements at the time like the fence, horizon, water, trees on the far shore, etc. which draw attention due to their size/color/placement and her position relative to them. I also might have benefited from different placement of the flash that I used to balance the sun behind and above her.

I have tentative plans to go back to that lake in a week or so with her and her BFF (Mary in my portfolio) to do some shots at sunset, so I will simply pay more attention next time.

Good idea. Certain times of day just do not work well for this sort of photography. What happens if you do not shoot that close?

In my area of West Texas, I would shoot around 8 pm or later. However, I would not have that wonderful water location.. maybe some sand hills, or a scrubby mesquite bush in the background.. LOL
