I've been wanting to do some more with PS and finally find myself with a couple of hours to do some playing. Posting a couple of results for your C&C.

I am commenting only on the first. I dont think the selective color works well here. My eye is drawn to the lips but then my eye just drifts out of the image. There is nothing else to keep my eyes in the shot. Perhaps a different composition would help.

Thank you for your comments Scott... I had forgotten about this post. I've removed the colored layer and re-posted the image.

Cheers!

"I've removed the colored layer and re-posted the image."
Glad to learn that, because I stared at the first image for several minutes trying to find the color - thought my eyes had totally crapped out.
Even in complete b/w, I think the lighter lower left corner and the lips in the upper right compete for the viewers' attention. While the texture of the water droplets in intriguing, I think you'd have a stronger image by cropping somewhat below the ends of the loose strands of hair on the right.
Thanks for sharing.

This happens a lot in real life for me...

Thank you for your thoughts Mr. Ford. I appreciate your time very much and offer this revision for your considerations.

Amazing how a different perspective can give an image a totally different look. I actually think that both versions stand well on their own - each provides it own emotion to the viewer.

But I do prefer the image in full B&W compared to the colouring of the lips as you initially posted.

Only comment on the "second" revised image is the stray hair is now more evident with the image being larger.

Thanks for posting your revisions for us to compare,
