Working on a style of "pin-up". Wish I could get the "Elvgren" look, but know his stuff was drawn.

I'm certainly no expert, but it looks like you're off to a good start.

I think that you'll get more (and better) criticisms if you post somewhat larger images.

I think that the styling is good, the pose is good, and the lighting is good. However, I suspect that you've oversaturated in post, and there seems to be a posterization kind of thing going on, particularly in her face. I also have an impression that her face isn't in focus, but that may be my eyes or the image size.

Is that a cutout? Or, is it shot on a white seamless? The lack of shadow and/or reflection makes her seem unnaturally suspended in (white) space. The lighting's nice. The pose, makeup, wardrobe and prop certainly works for the genre. I don't think the hair style works nor the hoop earings. You might consider changing the composition. Everything is so... centered.

I think he was trying to make it look like an illustration to make it have more of an Elvgren feel.
I agree about the ear rings and hair style.

Once you add some color behind her and it will look a lot better. Right now there is that "floating" sense Jimmy mentioned because she's not anchored by anything. Like JFord, I think this is a great start to getting the effect.

Mind if I copy and play with your image to see if I can achieve the effect you're looking for. I think I can get it closer than it is. I will repost my results with your permission.

Hey Merlin,

Played and played with this, not sure I ended up where I had envisioned but it was fun trying. Neat image.

I inverted this, did all kinds of things to it, that in the end added a little detail and desaturated it. I then added the background layer and tried to give the image a little plasticity. Really not sure if it is any closer.

The pose is certainly pin-up although the model is no Dita Von Tis. You're definitely on the right track.
