I'm back to working with family to test some lighting out.

I had my kids come out to the garage where I set up my backdrop letting it hang and hopefully getting some wrinkles out of it. And I played around with some lighting. Am I getting anywhere close?

The lighting in these photos are much better. I absolutely love the bg! May I ask where you got that from?

I bought it on Ebay. Happened to find it in the last two minutes of the auction, with no bids on it. I bid 99 cents with 20 seconds to go and won. The seller didn't get hurt too bad though. He was charging $40 for shipping.

even better! You could also try to crop a little more off of the right side. remember, your subjects don't always have to be in the middle of the pic.

As a matter of fact, there's a generally accepted rule of composition that says your subjects SHOULDN'T be in the middle of the image. It's called the Rule of Thirds. With this rule, you place the centers of interest in an image at one of the four intersecting corners when you divide an image into horizontal and vertical thirds (think of a tic-tac-toe square overlaid onto an image). Psychologically, our brain usually perceives that arrangement as more pleasing that when we put the center of interest dead-in-the-middle of a shot.

Here's a little tutorial I use in my classes that explains it better than I can, here. You'll need Adobe's Shockwave player to see the movie: http://pipwerks.com/tutorials/thirds/index.html

clarionite keep shooting...you're doing fine. I like the crop better as well. It puts the focus on the dancers. Also nice choice in background too!
