Still working on my lighting, but I think it's getting better. I look forward to your comments, and please don't hold back, I have thick skin!

It looks well lit! The only thing I'd offer is to suggest removing the photo frame on the wall. It is crooked and it intersects with the subject's head.

She has beautiful skin, so lighting that isn't a problem. Because she has rounded features you might want to short light her a little rather than broad light as she is here. That will draw you attention to her eyes and skin rather than her cheek and face.

Nice shot

Thanks for the feedback! Can someone explain short lighting to me? I have the book "Lighting for glamour photography" but I can't find anything in there on short lighting!

Thanks!

Pete

The terms short and broad mean the camera is on the shadow or lit side of the face respectively.

For this photo to have been short lit you should consider the model to be at the center of a clock. If the camera position was at twelve o'clock the main light would have been somewhere around three o'clock. Add fill on shadowed side "to taste". This style of lighting has the effect of making a face appear to be narrower.

My example may not be the best since it has lots of fill but it was the first thing I came across in my files. By the way, this is an easy look to pull off with your on-camera flash if you're not working with studio lights. Just position yourself and the model about the same distance from a wall and bounce your flash off the wall. This is how my example was done. It was a small room so the fill is from the light bouncing around the other walls of the room.

Okay, thanks for the explanation on short lighting! Would this one be considered short lighting or should I be even further to the left?

Yes, I like this photo much better than the first one. The lighting is more flattering plus you have better skin tone.
