a reflector, some fill flash, anything to pump some light to the model would dramatically improve these images.

I did use some fill flash (light kept changing rapidly all morning) but didn't think about using a reflector. I'll remember that next time out. Thank you

or try increasing the power output of the fill flash, slightly overcoming the daylight's exposure.

Here comes a rule #10 violation. Sorry...I'm still working on uploading photos to my port. My comments are stylistic -- so please take them with a grain of salt.

I'd add a couple of things in addition to the fill flash/reflector...the top step runs right through the model's head. That's a bit distracting...nothing that kills the photo, just something to think about.

This is a nice photo -- although the color makes me think it's cold out. If you'd like to warm up the day, adding a bit of amber would do it.

I like the composition of this a lot. It's tight and she's folded into the photo in a way that makes it feel intimate. Nicely done. Consider removing the "square of light" in the upper right to remove that as a distraction.

Here is a quick example of how a simple improvement (increase the fill and adjust the exposure somewhat) might look.



There are still some composition problems that have been mentioned by others. It might be possible with many of the shots, if starting with the full size image, to add considerable fill after the fact in post. But, naturally, it is better to do it in camera.

Since you were using Fill flash, your camera may have a control to adjust the flash power for the shot. If you pumped it a bit higher, then that would help. But keep in mind that the photo as shot seemed a little dark, so you might want to work on the exposure. One thing to remember is that when photographing dark skinned subjects, you need to adjust the exposure from what the meter says since black absorbs more of the light.
