I would recommend first of all that the model be looking at you, and if you're doing a full figure shot, try not to crop out the feet. If you can't then crop above the knees. If you can wait for all the other ppl taking photos to stop so the model can give you all her attention. You picked a nice angle on the lighting hitting her face.

It's a snapshot at a car show.

Go do something real now.

I dislike the shadow behind the model. Dislike also the unnecesary and ugly shoes cut with this framing. You can try to talk with the model and arrange a session later. Regards, Pelayo.

Hi to all responders on this thread. You each made critiques but no one posted one of their photos as required by our posting rules (see rule 10). Read this post for more details

As for my critique --- I have to agree, that this is just a snapshot that records a car show event. That means it is difficult to comment since, as you say, you didn't have any control. But is that really true? Often I find that at such events, you can get great shots, if you carefully examine the scene, and look for just the right angle and are patient. Also try to get eye contact with the subject. You can often just say something to the model right after you have the composition made and you've just locked focus. Then say something to the model and when she looks at you, snap the photo.

Re: Model from autoshow

This example was shot under conditions where I had no control over the light. This was a public event. Other photographers were shooting. I saw a possible good shot, and told the model to hold onto the scarecrow. Snap.

Cheers,
rfs

Sir,

Keep shooting...I started a year ago when I purchased my first dSLR. It's not as easy as it looks, but with some study and practice you'll see a serious improvement. BTW it's not that bad!
